Bachelor Pad Sneak Peak

by habituallychic

07 . 15 . 08

So, we had our first installation of furniture last week at the Bachelor Pad and the changes have been amazing if I do say so myself. Just in case you forgot what this wall looked like before, I’ve included the original incarnation below. Of course, it’s still not finished. There is a lot left to do here and all over the apartment. I need to find a mirror for above the fabulous vintage console I bought from Pieces in Atlanta. More of them later. I also am waiting to hang the beautiful framed book plates of sculptures at Versailles that I bought at Christopher Filley in Kansas City. I left the candle sticks in the back since there was no mirror but they probably won’t stay there. The Buddha heads from the flea market stand look right at home on the console too. I do have to crawl down under the console to touch up the spots that the painters missed soon though. Oh, and for all those of you who scoffed at the art books I was buying for the Bachelor, he said to fret not. He loves them all and will definitely read them. They also give me something to read while I wait for the furniture deliveries! Ha!

  10. Virginia July 15, 2008 | 11:19 am

Ms. Chic! 🙂 – may we ask the color of the fab paint? It is a wonderful space…

  11. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 11:33 am

Hi Virgina, It’s Middlebury Brown HC-68.

I also had a reader email me to say that there is a lot of brown and I should lighten it up. I mentioned that the design is definitely not finished but it also doesn’t look so dark in person. I didn’t use a flash either for a nicer effect. I think once the mirror is in place it will lighten things up since the opposite wall is all windows and the apartment gets a lot of light. The other walls in the living room are lighter too.

  16. The Knittymommy July 15, 2008 | 1:47 pm

  18. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 2:01 pm

An Aesthete’s Lament, I can’t imagine with your immpeccable taste that your place could need any work but if you ever need any help, give me a call. I’m currently taking on new clients!

  19. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 2:04 pm

Thanks Alice! I think you have wonderful taste always so if you like it, that means a lot!

  21. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 2:07 pm

Be the Change, I think he wants a mirror and it will be a nice place to check yourself out before you leave. A mirror will also reflect the light from the wall of windows across the room.

My friend just asked me this morning where the lamps were from and I was laughing when I told her Crate and Barrel! They are the Perry Table Lamp and look really great in person too!

  22. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 2:08 pm

Knittymommy, that wall was screaming for a console so I’m so glad I got to make the change! It’s been a wonderful and fun project so far!

  23. thestamfordwife July 15, 2008 | 2:09 pm

ok, I want to lick those walls…it’s the perfect milk chocolate brown.

Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the finished product!!

  24. Motor City Jeanne July 15, 2008 | 3:42 pm

Fantastic. Lighting seems to be everything, in design. When I watch Divine Design, the lighting makes everything look so much better. I love viewing transformations!! And Ben Moore paints are my favorite. I just used Ecru in a room and love it.

  25. Jennifer July 15, 2008 | 4:01 pm

looks fabulous! I love the lamps even more now that I know they’re C&B. Thanks for sharing all of your sources and I can’t wait to see the finished product!

  26. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 4:03 pm

The Stamford Wife, I’m sure the Bachelor will get a kick out of your comment. Thanks!

  27. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 4:03 pm

Motor City Jeanne, I love Divine Design and Design Inc!

  28. Habitually Chic July 15, 2008 | 4:05 pm

Jennifer, I tried to use a variety of sources and mix new pieces with vintage. I think it will give it a more personal look and not like a designer came in and did it for him.

  29. Topsy Turvy July 15, 2008 | 6:46 pm

What a great job, HC! It’s very masculine, yet elegant. I think anyone would feel comfortable there.

It looks wonderful! I don’t think it’s too dark at all. Where did you find the chairs? I’ve been trying to make a “pair” with an old bergere I have…thanks for sharing.

What – do you have a magic wand or something?
Stand there, and cross your arms and blink magic?
I shall rub my magic lantern for a “habitually chic- I dream of an interior genie.”

  37. Abbey Goes Design Scouting July 16, 2008 | 11:45 am

    looks fantastic!

  38. hello gorgeous July 16, 2008 | 12:12 pm

Wow! I agree – it looks fabulous! Your friend is very lucky … Thanks for sharing all the details (especially where you got your lighting – selecting proper lighting is my most difficult decorating problem and I am anxiously awaiting the tutorial).

Cannot wait to see the finished product! (You can tell because I have used many exclamation points 🙂

  42. London Calling July 17, 2008 | 2:02 am

Looks fabulously high end and the lamps are a big part of the equation. How cool that they are C&B. I think it even makes me like them better. Great job!

  43. Habitually Chic July 17, 2008 | 2:27 pm

Thanks to everyone who left comments! I’m so glad you all like it so far!

The chairs are actually from Oly and I bought them at Calypso Home. They were having a 40% off furniture sale and so I bought some Bergere chairs for the bedroom and these, which weren’t on sale for the entry.

I have to say that I always mentally redecorate first and usually have a vision in my head of what I would like to do. Then it’s a matter of finding things that fit into that vision. The hunt is the best part. I don’t really like to do custom since that takes all the fun out of shopping for antiques and vintage pieces, although reupholstery is fine.

I’m still not sure the bachelor realizes how lucky he is but he has started making his bed so that’s some progress! Baby steps!!!

  44. Avril July 18, 2008 | 2:32 am

This definetly is habitually chic!!! Great work – keep the images coming, can’t wait to see it completed!! x
