Orange You Glad It’s Friday?!

Orange is my favorite color and it happens to be the favorite color of a lot of designers. I’ve always wondered why so many of us gravitate toward this color and in the September 2009 color issue of House Beautiful there is a clue. According to their color chart, orange represents creativity. It expands your thinking and is the color of laughter and celebrations. Sounds about right. To me, orange is a unisex color that is cheerful yet sophisticated. It also coordinates well with a lot of other colors. But mostly, it just makes me happy! Hopefully these orange images will brighten your day too! Bon Weekend!

  4. maison21 August 28, 2009 | 3:52 am

    fun.

orange is number two for me- number one is sunshine yellow! (but shhhh- don’t tell! it’ll scare the clients away)

Orange is such a vibrant color that it adds a certain WOW factor to a room and the orange benz is so classic!

I visit your blog daily and I have to say, I’m inspired each time.

    Have a blast in Paris!

Haha, the colour orange is definitely coming in, if not this fall, then definitely this winter of spring. I’ve already seen it as a big deal in a fashion magazine, except I can’t remember which one.

I’ve gravitated toward orange my whole life…glad to know why now! I especially love any orange/turquoise combo. It’s so chic yet daring.

  8. Anonymous August 28, 2009 | 7:09 am

And don’t forget Tinsley’s Blue and Orange pad! That combinations was adorable.
    I love orange too! Arabella

  11. pve design August 28, 2009 | 9:28 am

I really think Hermes gave orange something special.
Orange is one of my favorite colors too. There is something fresh and a bit silly.
Imagine an orange any other color! Not!

Orange is such a stimulating color. One of my all time favorite rooms that incorporates the color is the one where Marina Rust Connor is sitting on her orange couch in her Maine home.

  15. Eden Blake Collection August 28, 2009 | 12:34 pm

I design a ready-to-wear collection and orange is always present in my collections. The color is so sophisticated. The neutrality of orange always ties the collections together. Orange is one of my blacks!
    I loved the pictures!

  16. Ivy Lane August 28, 2009 | 12:54 pm

Loving these images today! and YES, I am glad it is Friday!! 🙂

    Happy Weekend to you!

  17. Jeannine August 28, 2009 | 1:17 pm

Confession: I love orange, but I hate it when people display their Hermes boxes. It reminds me of being a pre-teen and sifting through my mother’s small shopping bags to pull out the best designer one for my lunches.

BUT, I love orange. Love, love, love it.

  18. caroline @ patagonia gifts August 28, 2009 | 1:41 pm

oh that bedroom with all the walls orange is sooo cheery! love it!
hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  19. Lucindaville August 28, 2009 | 2:10 pm

The Hermes “Orange” box was kind of a fluke. They were a cream in the 1920’s and rather non-nondescript. During the WWII there was a shortage of materials and the only box board available to Hermes was an orange color. The color remained, though it’s intensity was improved after the war. Kismet is a wonderful thing!

  20. Zelda August 28, 2009 | 2:43 pm

orange is in the air ,,, I like the mercedes 🙂 funny end

  21. mary August 28, 2009 | 3:02 pm

Huuuuum…..I’ve never really thought that much about orange, except as in Hermes and coral and chinese procelains…Definitely going to give orange a little more consideration. The count down is on… have a wonderful trip.

  22. Black Zebra August 28, 2009 | 3:03 pm

Ever since Linsey Lohan had THAT drama with her over-sized orange Hermes bag, I have seen it in my dreams at least once or twice (want it,want it!). Orange is my favorite colour too!!( digging burnt orange at the moment:-) Have a great weekend!xx

  26. Eden Blake Collection August 28, 2009 | 4:21 pm

I design a ready-to-wear collection and the orange is always a staple in each collection. It is the most sophisticated neutral color!

Great post! Orange is so vibrant and alive, but most of all I’m ready for the colors of pumpkins and fall. I used to have orange in my bedroom. With the lights on at night, it glowed beautifully. Cheers! xoxo

It’s a brilliant color for a cashmere throw, blown glass or a fabulous signature piece, in my opinion…
I’d also love to know who painted the large orange painting with the white dog – love it!

  36. Hillary's Brook August 28, 2009 | 11:02 pm

Maybe a dumb question, but, Are the walls in that Sara Story bedroom a wallpaper or a very elaborate mural? If it’s wallpaper I’d love to know what it is!

  37. fabulousfinishes August 29, 2009 | 3:00 am

  38. Anna Lena Land August 29, 2009 | 3:53 am

For years I tried to deny my love for orange, now I shout it loud and clear. My design studio is orange and aqua, and I’m so happy there. Loved the info on the meaning of orange.

  39. Annie Empiric August 29, 2009 | 2:22 pm

I am drawn to orange too. This weekend I am taking a step back from the store and working on our house and orange will be making an appearance. Pretty post.

I met the acquaintance of a strawberry-blonde guy a few years back at a party … he invited us all to his place and the ENTIRE apartment was decorated in different shades of orange! It was WAY more than your posting, but it actually WORKED … so in true Warholian style we dubbed him “Michael Orange”.

  43. avant garde August 29, 2009 | 7:06 pm

I love orange- the much misaligned color by the way- I will say though, the orange Hermes bag-though signature in color is a bag quite conspicuous to carry and a little hard to play down,my preference-I received it as a gift from my parents and siblings several years ago. gt
