Fashion Week begins on Friday and already everyone is in a twitter especially since some shows and parties have already been cancelled or scaled back. Everyone is also buzzing about the new documentary The September Issue which chronicles Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her team as they put together the 5 pound September 2007 issue. Director and producer R.J. Cutler and his small crew assembled more than 300 hours of footage from January to August 2007 and just premiered the completed documentary at Sundance last month. I haven’t heard when it will be released theatrically but I hope it’s soon!

We wanted to be as careful as we could to signal that this magazine is aimed at a different market, … upscale feel. – Anna Wintour

I volunteered long ago for the benefit, Seventh ave Sale and was the “coat check” person and I checked some famous coats. One being that of Anna Wintour and she was pleasant and chic. I guess the bad rap always comes with the territory of the title editor.

Patricia – I think most women in business get a bad rap! I’m sure she is very nice most of the time but when it’s your reputaion on the line that means being tough and trying to put out the best possible magazine. There are a lot of bad male bosses out there who actually scream at their employees and although I’ve heard Anna Wintour is tough, I haven’t heard any screaming stories!

I can’t wait to see this! Bring it on!!

It is that successful woman stigma..like how deamonized Carly Fiornia was at HP..it’s pretty sad it is still an issue.

But..I would gather it is coming out in September, or prob May, so it can premier at Tribeca?

I can’t wait to see it! I’ve been looking forward for this documentary forever since I’ve always been interested in fashion journalism and Anna Wintour. I really admire her boldness and talent.

She’s a great editor. But maybe they should have slashed her salary and perks and used it to prop up Domino during the recession?

I think she’s pretty talented – and she did style Adele for the Grammy’s just for the fun of it(we have pics on bloomacious.com of the outfit) I think the NY magazine culture for a long time has been very exclusionary. On another note from what I understand upscale brands are booking increases in sales (Hermes, Prada, Chanel, Dior all had huge upticks recently) so there is a need for a venue for the ads.

Alice Olive – I’ll keep you posted if I find out the release date!

Sweet Nothings – good call on the Tribeca Film Festival. I will have to check the films as soon as they are listed.

Daily Moda – It should be very interesting!

Anonymous – I heard the Si Newhouse cut Domino to keep Portfolio and that Allure will be next. Does anyone even read Portfolio?! And Domino subscribers will now get Arch Digest which everyone hates. Ugh!

Carrie – She’s a very good editor but Vogue has become a little stale lately. And they certainly didn’t style Adele out of the goodness of their hearts. Everything in NYC is done with marketing and PR in mind and it’s great press for Vogue.
