Chic in La Chamade

I don’t even remember what I was looking for when I came across the photo of Catherine Deneuve above but it stopped me in my tracks. It looks so timeless that it could have been taken yesterday. It’s actually from the 1968 French film La Chamade (Heartbeat) that I can’t believe I didn’t know about before! I can already tell that I am going to love it! Yves Saint Laurent designed the wardrobe and as much as I love his designs in Belle du Jour, let’s face it, it’s a weird movie. La Chamade was written by Francoise Sagan and has Catherine Deneuve looking tres chic as she chooses between a life of wealth and privilege with an older man or a less than comfortable one with a poor but handsome younger man. We should all have such issues! I can’t wait to see it! Bon weekend!

Catherine Deneuve and her sister Francoise Dorleac were my favorites at the time and I have to confess I have seen the movie right then! Funny that I just posted on another old movie(from1970)”Anonimo Venziano”. Nostalgia must be in the air…
Ah! Michel Piccoli, Ah! that Alfa Romeo, Ah! Yves design!

Catherine Deneuve is one of the most beautiful women –still active in film and so talented. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the weekend.

Great tip! I am a Deneuve fan and have not seen this one. I’ll get it this weekend. And, now that I’m 50, I hope she picks the older man!!

I suppose the French word CHIC, so inappropriately and overused in today’s excessive and uninformed culture, has found its true definition in the form of Madame Deneuve. Young, middle aged or mature, she epitomizes the word to perfection. What passes for chic today, well, let’s not even go there!
Merci beaucoup for this lovely montage of a style most likely never to be seen again.

Catherine Deneuve and Grace Kelly, though different eras are the mark for looks as blondes go. A great movie and love the images, especially the ones in the trench. la

Brillante Home Decor – I just looked at your post and the phot of them walking in Venice reminds me of the photo of Catherine Deneuve walking in Paris. They are both timeless. I have never seen the other movie either so I am putting that in my queue as well! I also had no idea CD had a sister. I wonder if she is as beautiful!

Vicki – I am jealous that you will be able to understand them! I only catch every fifth word and have to read as well as watch! But I still can’t wait to see it!

Annie – I can already tell it’s going to become one of my favorite chic movies!

Nancy – welcome! Hope you enjoy it!

Mary – She’s even beautiful 40 years later! Amazing!

Style Odyssey – it was a good era. Now what do we have, funny but unstylish movies. Kind of sad.

    M. Lane – I read a little bit of what happens but I won’t give it away!

Nevin – we should all be so lucky! She still looks amazing!

The Consummate Hostess – I can’t wait to see what else she wears in the film!

She is such a timeless beauty… what I love is that she was/is not deathly thin, just radiantly healthy!!! Tres chic!!

I will try to get a hold of the movie soon……

I will now go looking to see if I can find this movie. Also just watched “Darling,” with Julie Christie from 1965. Another gorgeous woman of the time, and even now. The movie’s in b/w but the clothes are wonderfully elegant and she looks smashing in them. If you haven’t seen it yet, definitely worth a rental.

That first picture is STUNNING! Oh I can only dare to dream to look like that! Beautiful!

this movie is great – see it immediately!!! I think she is one of my favorite actresses of all time.

  21. princedeligne August 17, 2009 | 1:12 pm

Catherine reeks of elegance and refinement. I fell for her when I saw Belle De Jour and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. She’s just dreamy, a confection for your eyes.

So great! I’m totally hair inspired!

Hmmm…. a French film penned by Sagan. Against my better judgement, it’s added to the queue. I do so hate to suffer.
