Blue Christmas: Part Deux

by habituallychic

12 . 07 . 09

It was the photos of the blue entry decorated for Christmas in the December 2009 issue of Elle Decor that had me thinking back to Aerin Lauder’s blue Christmas. I love blue and white porcelain any time of year but I think it looks especially festive at the holidays.

Miles Redd, who can do not wrong in my opinion, designed the apartment and lacquered the walls in the entry Yves Klein blue. I couldn’t help but also post a photo of the bar below. Cheers!

Cheers (back at you)–love the bar–red and “farmy” (that’s one handsome bull). Have a great week.

I am in love with the blue lacquered walls! I want to have all my woodwork repainted in HIGH gloss white because of this spread in Elle Decor… STUNNING!

Beautiful, Miles Redd is always spot on…Mary Mcdonald as well;)

Mary – I love that the home is really personal. I can’t imagine a designer picking out a bull painting for a client!

Ivy Lane – I love high gloss since New York apartments tend to be dark and it reflects the light. I say go for it!

DoxaHome – glad you liked it and that I’m not the only one to notice the Mary McDonald connection 😉

I love. Love. LOVE this project. Miles Redd can do little wrong! I can only imagine how amazing this must look in the evening.

I think the walls blend into the ceiling before they hit that Greek Key thing – that’s sooooo cool!
Im becoming a big fan of Bories & Shearron the Architects of this hall….check out their fabulous floor and the door!! Adore the lacquered walls so beautiful- what a great team.

Oh my, that’s the glossiest walls I have ever seen. It reminds me of shiny gift wrapping paper, which is perfect for the season I guess. I love the upholstered doors, that’s so Miles Redd!

I absolutely love any color that Redd ever uses. In my current apartment, I specifically chose colors that had been recommended by Miles in past issues of House Beautiful–and did my kitchen in high gloss!

Miles Redd dreams in color! I love these colors. I love lacqered wall in large areas. I can’t put the December issue down.
What a Foyer! You have outdone yourself on these posts!

QUESTION: What EXACTLY is the process to get Lacquered walls. Several designers, including Redd do them often, but I can’t find ANYTHING that actually describes the process.

    I’m dying to know.

Can you do a post on it?

Tartanscot – I was told by the architects that the couple decided to forgo a chandelier in the dining room in order to dine by candlelight! That must be very elegant and beautiful!

Adam – I just posted a little interview with Dick and James of Bories & Shearron. They are so talented and inspiring!

The Lennoxx – It does look like wrapping paper! I am dying for lacquered walls!

Kate – I heard Miles speak on a panel at the Antiques Show last week and he’s so humble and nice. Surprising in someone so ridiculously talented!

Lacquered Life – What color in the kitchen??? I hope you post some photos!

Teresa – That’s such a great analogy! I bet he does dream in color!

    Sogni&Sorrisi – me too!

Lindsey – very chic and so outside the box.

Shauna – you read my mind! I have been working on a post and have contacted a few experts for help! I can tell you that the walls have to be perfectly smooth and it’s not an easy or cheap project. You can fake it a little bit with high gloss paint but it must be brushed on not rolled! Check back soon for the whole story!
