Mr. Crown

The dune buggy photos of Jude Law in the Dunhill advertising made me think of The Thomas Crown Affair. Not the 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo, although I like that one too, but the 1968 original version that starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. While most of Faye’s costumes and hairstyles look pretty dated, Steve McQueen and his handsome bespoke suits still look fabulous today. The same can’t be said of the short shorts he’s sporting above but I’ll let those slide since I don’t mind looking at his legs! I first saw this film when I lived in Beacon Hill in Boston and I used to love walking by Thomas Crown’s house at 85 Mt. Vernon Street. The interiors were shot on a sound stage but also surprisingly don’t look that dated either. Wish the same could be said of today’s movies!

    HC,
This is my boyfriend’s favorite film. It doesn’t get any better than Steve McQueen. Hot Man Candy indeed!

    Love this one too;
Her woardrobe is not too dated, I still see the boots, creams sported today, as for Steve,…well he is timeless.
So, it would be nice to see more of this today.

Love this movie, and love the clothes. Even in the newer version, Rene Russo had a lot of nice turtlenecks and boots! Hahaha.

As ModTrad put it…it does not get any better than this. Steve McQueen looks like he could be walking the streets today, which proves the longevity of classic well made clothing. Well done HC! Now I will have “The Windmills of Your Mind” stuck in my head.

I don’t anyone has ever filled Steve McQueen boots–such cooooooool. Faye D.’s wardrobe is definitely dated–but to perfection. Thanks for the reminder. Mary

one of my all-time favorite movies. Faye is so GORGEOUS, as is the film in general. The remake is fun and all but can’t compare to the original!

I loved this film. For many reasons. The plot, the clothes, and it was film in my city of Boston, a few doors down from where I live. Oh what a couple they made in this movie. I am going try and get this up on FIOS. Love this post!

  20. Alice Olive January 27, 2010 | 7:43 pm

One of my favourite films too. I think Faye is still extremely stylish, despite the passage of time. I think it’s more her make-up which looks dated to me.

    Steve, yes. Steve.

(PS – Renee’s clothes in the remake are THE reason I watch the remake over and over again. Michael Kors or Kor-esque at least.)

  21. LiveLikeYou January 28, 2010 | 1:51 am

The clothes, the cars, the hairdo’s, the interiors. Wish that was me waking up in the morning looking impossibly chic all day long! 60’s simply never go out of style.

  22. hello gorgeous January 28, 2010 | 5:07 pm

How gorgeous is this movie? I rented it last summer but have to own it.

I wish I had seen this one. I cringed the last time I tried to watch the remake. From the pictures here, Faye doesn’t look all that dated, but it’s the outerwear that really gives it away.
