Baby You Can Drive My Car

Actually, you can’t drive my car because I don’t own one.  I also don’t think Ralph Lauren will let you drive any of his cars because they are priceless treasures.  But you can read all about them and their special garage in the January 2011 issue of Vanity Fair.  Ralph Lauren doesn’t collect art because as he says, “you can’t drive art” but it’s clear from these photos that each one of his cars is a work of art.  They sure don’t make them like this anymore.  He bought the 1971 Mercedes 280SE soon after he started his own company and that’s exactly what I am going to buy myself when my business takes off.  Right after I take driving lessons.  I wonder if I can hire Ralph for the job!

I love old dashboards and instrument clusters! There is something so charming about them in this world of digital readouts and indicator lights. I know that may sound odd but I work for an automobile manufacturer so I guess I’m allowed.

Oh how I love vintage cars! Of all the vintage things, cars are by far my fave. There is something so elegant and commanding about them. My grandparents have a vintage rolls, which has probably never seen the light of day, but it’s fabulous to look at!

Wow impressive car collection! I think your site is well done. Would you take a minute to look at mine? I am new to this and really value the opinions of fellow bloggers whose blogs I think are superbly done. Thanks and Happy 2011!

picture #7 is the car my mother (who taught me everything about taste!) went to Germany to buy; and brought back to the USA!

It was a Mercedes 230 SE…….the first 4 passenger Mercedes convertible.

    Yours is a lovely blog!

    Happy New Year!

This is the type of car my inherited, vintage alpaca car coat was made for. I want to picked up in any of these cars (but particularly the ’71 Benz) and whisked away to a country inn for a 3-course luncheon, wearing my coat of course.

I was almost run over by dear Mr. Ralph last year in New Canaan, CT. Indeed he was driving one of his fancy cars, this one an orange porsche…vintage of course. It was lovely and as a designer myself I guess it’s a fine way to die-but I am glad he eventually saw me. 😉
