Golden Globes 2011 Fashion Recap

The 2011 Golden Globes last night were a feast of fashionable frocks and handsome men.  I’m happy to see the stylists also got my memo regarding green. I think Catherine Zeta Jones in Monique Lhuillier and Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men in Donna Karen knocked it out of the park.

Mila Kunis looked perfect in green Vera Wang and I actually liked Angelina Jolie’s green Atelier Versace gown.  I was just lamenting the fact that it’s impossible to find dresses with sleeves so I hope this trickles down to the designers I can afford!

Many actresses look beautiful in blue at the Golden Globes.  I loved Amy Adams in Marchesa much more so than Olivia Wilde who was overwhelmed be her Marchesa mille-feuille style dress. It reminded me of the dress Carrie wore in Paris on Sex and the City.  But I did love Mandy Moore in blue Monique Lhuillier.
A baby bump was popular accessory on the red carpet and Jane Krakowski’s looked perfect in blue Badgley Mischka.  Tina Fey, her co-star on 30 Rock, also looked beautiful in her dark blue L’Wren Scott gown.

My vote for best dressed goes to Emma Stone in this gorgeous Calvin Klein dress. It was so sinple and fresh and age appropriate.  Kyra Sedgewick’s frothy orange Emilio Pucci dress also looked gorgeous.

Sometimes I wish Juliane Moore wouldn’t take so many risks but I liked her pink Lanvin dress.  Claire Danes also looked amazing in pink Calvin Klein.

Glee‘s Lea Michele looked like a pretty pink cupcake in Oscar de la Renta.  I would have really loved Natalie Portman’s pink Viktor & Rolf dress if they had just left the stem off the flower.

Blush, nude and peach also seemed to be popular colors on the red carpet. I loved Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive and Leighton Meister in Burberry.  I don’t know any woman who loved her arms so bring on the sleeves!

I thought Carrie Underwood looked gorgeous in Badgley Mischka.  While Scarlett Johannson’s hair was a bit of a fright, her Elie Saab dress was perfection.

The younger girls didn’t disappoint either.  Diana Argon from Glee looked gorgeous in J. Mendel and Sarah Hyland of Modern Family looked pretty in Max Azria.

I loved that the young new comer Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit chose to also wear a young up and coming fashion designer Prabal Gurung.  She is only 14 and looked perfectly age appropriate.  I could easily see her being the next Nicole Kidman who looked pretty in Prada.

I know now everyone loved Jennifer Lopez’s whie Zuhair Murad dress but I thought she looked very Elizabeth Taylor old-Hollywood.  Jon Hamm’s girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt also looked sleek in white.

I thought the top of Eva Longoria’s black Zac Posen dress was beautiful but the hem seemed a bit long for her petite frame.  Julia Stiles looked gorgeous in her black Ramona Keveza gown too.

I loved Piper Perabo in black Oscar de la Renta with her perfect ponytail and bright lips.  I wish Eva Longoria’s dress had been this length.  Jayma Mays from Glee definitely stepped out of her good girl role with this sexy Alberta Ferretti dress!

It’s clear from these two that you don’t have to be young to look amazing on the red carpet.  Melissa Leo who took home a Golden Globes for her performance in The Fighter looked fabulous in her black sequined dress.  I also loved Jane Fonda’s gown.
I love when couples look great together and Annette Bening and Warren Beatty and Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks make perfect pairs.  Annette, in Tom Ford, took home a Golden Globes for her performance in The Kids are Alright too!

First, I have a crush on all these men for different reasons.  Alec Baldwin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Hemsworth and Justin Beiber all looked great on the red carpet.  Alec, call me!

I can’t give any fashion awards to Robert Downey Jr. Could someone have made him wear a blue tie at least?  But as I tweeted during the show, he was hysterical presenting and I think someone needs to create a Facebook campaign to get his to host the Golden Globes next year.  Who’s with me?

Oh, so outstanding! I love nights like these! Although I traded staying in front the tv to be with my hubby. Yep.. last night was pretty sweet. 🙂

I love how chic Catherine Zeta Jones ALWAYS look. She’s classy, elegant and sexy. Bravo!

I think she’ my favorite and for all she went thru this year with Michael.

    Have a Blessed Week, Heather.

Come see my dream home on my post today! A TRULY well designed one. You’ll love it.

My top two picks were Olivia Wilde and Emma Stone (mostly Stone for the colour, as the cut was pretty blah).
The host was funny but so offensive I just don’t know how he’ll work in that town again. It was cutting, not even funny.

Robert Downey Jr can not put a foot wrong in my book – I’ll watch any movie he is in, because you can never predict what he will do next, his comedic timing is perfection, and I kinda love that his look isn’t perfectly polished -it works for him.

Whats was with Angie adjusting Brads tie on camera and then applying her lipstick? Couldn’t they get dressed at home?

Definitely with you on the sleeves – hope designers take note.

Heather, there were more gorgeous gowns last night than I have seen at an awards show in some time.

    Thanks for sharing so many!

Thanks for a great round up of photos! I watched a bit of the show…I thought the winners were Anne Hathaway, Carrie Underwood, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Lopez, Mila Kunis. I thought Scarlot Johansen looked like a little house on the prarie runaway bride, and that leah michelle (though the dress was gorgeous and the color so fresh) was too sophisticated looking for her age. Also did not care for the distracting rose and stem on Natalie Portmans gown.
Overall though there were a lot of “pretties’ and it was a glamorous event!

oh what a fabulous idea, Robert Downey Jr. MUST host next year. I love him to death, and he’s not only funny, but very quick with his wit.
    Let’s start the campaign!

Kyra Sedgewick was my favorite! Such a punchy surprise in the dead of winter.

I really liked Anne Hathaway’s dress, but I also fell in love with Hailee Steinfeld’s outfit. I saw True Grit yesterday, and she looked so different at the ceremony.

I whole-heartedly agree with you on the sleeves! Even if you like your arms, it is so difficult to find stylish long-sleeved dresses to wear in the fall & winter. I also hope this trickles down soon! Loved J-LO’s dress as well!

Thank you for the fashion recap! I totally missed the Globes (3 young boys have a way to monopolize the TV and my time) and enjoyed seeing all of the dresses. Is it my imagination or are dresses with trains back in? Let me know when the Robert Downey Jr. for Globe Presenter campaign is up and running!

Anne Hathaway has never looked better! Her dress is truly a master piece! Jayma Mays also looked stunning!

Beautiful recap of gowns, glam, style – and men too! Although my fave color is black, I very much enjoyed seeing the beautiful & rich gem-tones (esp. the emerald!!), blush pinks and pale golds too…

Great recap! I didn’t get a chance to see the awards or red carpet, so this was a nice surprise in my blog reader 🙂

Hope you’ve had a lovely Monday!

    Great post…..love the dresses.
I’m so glad you posted a current pic of Bieber. My son gets stopped all the time b/c people think it’s Justin. Seeing this pic makes me realize my son DOES look like his twin! Even has the same tennis shoes from that pic.
We were in a hip restaurant in downtown Austin yesterday and 2 guys waited for us to come out to get his autograph! It’s wild!!

    I adore Alec too….he’s so adorably handsome….

    I always enjoy your posts.

Love your picks! Mila and Diana look STUNNING. Love all the cream coloured dresses…

I am with you on my boyfriend Robert Downey Jr. hosting the GGs next year. Ricky Gervais was funny but mean. However, RDJ needs to have his pants hemmed before he hosts. Can we add that to the petition?

OMG, Heather, can you imagine if Alec Baldwin reads this and then he picks up the phone and calls you? Wouldn’t that be awesome?!?!?!
