The Costume Institute Gala

The East Coast equivalent to the Oscars is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala hosted by Vogue.  While you have to be pretty well connected in the fashion world to be invited to the glamorous event, I was able to attend the morning preview.  This year’s Costume Institute exhibition is dedicated to Alexander McQueen and entitled Savage Beauty. It was one of the more breathtaking shows I’ve been to in a long time and I can’t wait to post my photos tomorrow.
Until then, here’s a peek inside the museum decorations for the evening gala.  I was blown away by the giant tree sitting a top the information desk in addition to many other trees and an abundance of flowers.  It takes almost a year to plan and an army to set up for this day so it was amazing that the event honoring Alexander McQueen would look so similar to the Royal Wedding at which Catherine Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton.  I hope Lee was smiling down on both.

Oh I cannot wait to see your photos of the exhibit. Even thought I live in Philadelphia, I’m thinking of joining the Met just so I can go to one of the member previews with at least a few less viewers than the mad mad crush of general admission.

That photo of Jennifer Lopez–the best she’s ever looked.

Heather – enjoyed this post. I personally loved Zoe Saldana’s lemon Calvin Klein sheath and Ginnifer Goodwin’s amazing emerald green cut outs. Anna’s Chanel haute couture was pretty special too 😉 Did you see the gorgeous pics of the after party? I posted today if you feel like a visit 😉 The unofficial one was held at the Standard next door to my home…I think the best event venues are museums, personally – you can’t beat them for their amazing architecture and epic proportions.
