Geek Chic

There really isn’t anything geeky about these bespeckled beauties including Carrie Donovan above but there is definitely something about a pair of glasses that makes the wearer appear smarter.  I had a cab driver ask me today if I worked at Citibank. A random question to say the least but I chalk it up to my new glasses that apparently make me look really, really smart.  I had a lot of readers ask me where I got them after seeing them in my last post so I figured why not compile a few iconic images of those who wear glasses and a few that probably will be someday.  For the record, my new glasses are Ray Ban Wayfarer Square and they definitely make geek chic.

    Your glasses look great, Heather.
Love my glasses, but I only wear them around the house for some crazy reason. My sunglasses are Wayfarer and I LOVE them. Go through a pair a year for the post decade.
Love this post. It has inspired me to wear my glasses more often.

I just got new glasses, too. I love the geek chic style, but I have a small, thin nose, so plastic frames always sit too low (like Jenna Lyons and Joanna Hillman (who look cute anyway). I found some metal ones with plastic tortoise shell on the front. Very funky. The metal part is purple, but the tortoise shell covers enough of it that they don’t scream PURPLE. And they have the little nose clips that metal frames use, so I can adjust them to sit correctly on my face. Anne & Valentin’s Fairy frame. I’m also pleased because the makers are from Toulouse, which is not far from where I live.

Yes. No. Maybe. Depends on who’s wearing them! LOL!

I love your images – what a great way to start off a weekend! We were thrilled when the fabulous Nina Campbell walked into our booth at the New York Gift Show in January to place an order – we recognized her from her famous heart-shaped spectacles! You can see them on Vicente Wolf’s blog – http://www.vicentewolfblog.com/friends/nina-campbell/

Fun seeing so many familiar faces in glasses…some look incredibly glamorous others not so much. So funny because up until around 17 I was dying to wear glasses and now that I actually ‘kind of” have to…not so keen on the idea. This post however redeems them in my eyes so maybe they aren’t so bad afterall!

What a brilliant idea for a post!

Of course, your entire blog is brilliant.

Everything old is new again. I’m not sure about the Beiber though, they sort of accentuate his youth and innocence. Like he’s wearing his Daddy’s glasses!

What a fabulous post. It’s interesting to see celebs now wearing glasses for the fashion/smart fun of it. You look great in yours!

I started wearing glasses with clear glasses to look older when I moved to NYC…I now wear Anglo American handmade frames and I could never NOT wear them now because folks know me with my frames as a signature.

    I LOVE wearing glasses.

Two great ones need to be added… Le Corbusier and I.M. Pei.

Love that Swifty Lazar! Also, Paul McC should go back to his nerdchic look.
Rather surprised not to see Sylvia Weinstock in this group of spex-wearers!
