Chic in LA: Nathan Turner Design

I missed seeing interior designer Nathan Turner‘s new store when I was in Los Angeles last year so it was at the top of my list this trip.  As I mentioned, it was even more special because I was able to chat with him for an hour before he was off to New York for the NYIGF.  If Mary McDonald didn’t have the flu, I would have begged for her to join us.  Watching Mary and Nathan giggle on Million Dollar Decorators is my favorite part of the show.  They only agreed to do the show if they could do it together and even though Nathan isn’t officially part of the cast this season, he can still be seen hanging out with Mary.
This new store location on Melrose Avenue came about after a rent increase on his space at Almont Yard when he realized he could have a bigger space for less rent on a busy street.  Looks like Daisy above feels very at home in this new space. It was also exciting to walk in and see a stack of my book Creativity at Work just begging to be signed.   Nathan’s book Nathan Turner’s American Style: Classic Design and Effortless Entertaining was released just before my book and it was fun to chat about our ideas for our next books.  I can’t wait until his is ready because I love the concept and know you will too.
I had a reader accidentally reply to their email subscription of my LA in a Nutshell post that said, “Totally envious of her trip and all things she has access too – Like cutie Nathan Turner!” Sometimes I have to pinch myself and remember how lucky I am to get to meet such talented and lovely people but I don’t think any of them have been as nice as “cutie” Nathan Turner.  Definitely stop by his new shop when you are in LA!

My book!

This little donkey painting was my favorite thing in the store.

A stack of Million Dollar Decorator books.

Nacho and his constantly wagging tail.

I don’t know what I love more, the lamp or the bag.

So many pretty things. I’m drooling over some of those pillows and some of the art! I really need to stop by there.

You’re so lucky you got to chat with him!

    Have a good one…

I like his quirky Afro-Bo-Ho style.
Perhaps we should kidnap Mary, stuff her into an old Kuba cloth (inspired) duvet cover and steal Nathan away from her.
Now THAT’s how you have fun in L.A.

Absolutely loved this post. I was so disappointed that he was dropped from MDD. He added a sense of normalcy to the group. I love his style and can’t wait to stop in his shop next time I am in LA!
