Beauty of Dreams

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

– Eleanor Roosevelt
I know some of you get annoyed when I spend too long on one topic so I’m going to come back to the Musée Nissim de Camondo in a few days.  In the meantime, I’m going to remind you of the important of dreaming big.
I was thinking about this recently as I was telling someone about my dream to buy a townhouse.  (I don’t dream small!) New York is a place filled with dreamers.  It’s the reason we all moved here.  It’s such a tough city that if you don’t have a dream to keep you going, it will eat you up and spit you out.  My dream is what gets me out of bed in the morning and what makes me take chances and try things that scare me. They say that you’re supposed to create a vision board to help you manifest your dreams.  My instagram feed full of pretty townhouses fulfills that purpose and who knows, one day one of them might just be mine.
What’s your dream?

I have been dreaming about doing a special trip to Washington D.C. with my kids. Last week that dream came true and my son and I had lunch at the White House with 53 other kids and there parents. You never know what happens when you put your dreams out there. By the way the powder room in the White House was amazing.

My dream is a four bedroom apartment for me, my husband and our two girls on Östermalm in Stockholm – rather than the two bed we´re crammed in at the moment. Thanks for nurturing my dreaming through your blog – it´s the best. Love Astrid

I love these townhouses. I so love them I can’t say right now which is my favorite – an elaborate and stately or adorable with the bike locked to the side.
Lovely dreams and even better, the reminder to keep the dreams alive.
    Thanks Heather- big hug.

Excuse me–this is your blog, with your ideas and dreams but you have to tailor it to what others want? I don’t think that’s right, and I, for one, thoroughly enjoy hearing about Paris. Hope to go there in the spring. And I am living my dream–retired and traveling!

My dream is to have a home with a small room I can make into a little library. Quiet and cozy. Those town homes are gorgeous. If I lived in NY, I’d want one too. Dreams are what keep us going, motivate and inspire. Thank you for sharing your dream with us.

Life inspired by dreams! Always–the trick is to keep focused amid all of life’s distractions, thanks for the reminder and great tip. I’m waiting for your next book–your photos of doors and doorways –in Paris and where ever you go are fantastically gorgeous: each one seems to tell a story. xoxoxo

I don’t blame you, its a good dream to have. I was in NYC for the first time in Nov and was struck by how beautifully decorated most townhomes were on the outside with very creative fall floral and vegetable displays. Simply stunning !

Your photographs of New York City townhouses are wonderful…thank you! One of my dreams is to live abroad, preferably in Finland in the summer and France and New Zealand the rest of the year. How are you doing with the sweltering heat in NYC this summer? Best wishes from the Pacific Northwest, Leslie in Portland

One of my favorite things about NYC are the townhouses. While London, Chicago, Paris, and other metropolitan cities have townhouses, their exterior architecture is never quite the way NYC’s are.

I also think the quintessential NYC townhouse is symbolic of making it in NYC. If you’ve got that, then you’ve lived through the crazy battle that is making it in the City. Love all these exteriors, Heather. Thanks for reminding us to dream big! 🙂

Beautiful! My dream is to own my own home with a purple or aqua door, inviting to all who pass by! I look at images like these, and I even dream of the hardware, and a mail slot, on sites like Look in the Attic & Company!

I think it is sad you feel you have to not blog what you want as some people get annoyed, that is their problem not yours so don’t be swayed by public opinion!

Personally I would happily live in a shoebox in New York as it is my dream to live there. My husband has promised me another trip there later this year so fingers crossed he gets the money to make good on it.
