The Windmills of Your Mind

The 1968 version of The Thomas Crown Affair was on TCM last night.  I always think of the theme song The Windmills of Your Mind every fall. I wish it looked a bit more like autumn in New York.  The leaves turn so late here but I know the wait will be worth it.  Until then, I’ll make do with these online images.
Why did summer go so quickly
Was it something that I said
Lovers walking along the shore
Leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair

I especially like the sequence of antlers in velvet, followed by the furry jacket in the same-looking fur, followed by the furry grey grass on the beach dune…very cool!

I guess I know what I’ll be humming all day tomorrow.

These photos capture the essence of fall perfectly. Love that coat, too.
