Chic in Paris: Maison Michel

Everyone tells you to bring an umbrella to Paris because you never know when it might rain but you should honestly pack a hat.  Sometimes it’s a just a quick passing sprinkle and it’s not worth putting up your umbrella. The narrow sidewalks also make it a bit hard to navigate with one too.  That’s why I was excited to find that Maison Michel has opened a pop up shop on rue Cambon.
Maison Michel was founded in Paris by hat maker Auguste Michel in 1936. Pierre Debard and his wife Claudine take over the company in 1968 and a few years later create large straw hats that appeal to the fashion world including Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent. In 1980, they start making hats for Chanel, Givenchy, Nina Ricci, Lanvin, and others. In 1996, Chanel buys Maison Michel and takes over production. Laetitia Crahay, the designer of Chanel jewelry and accessories, is named artistic direction of Maison Michel in 2006 and brings with her a sense of irreverence. You’ve most definitely seen the lace bunny ears she’s designed in many magazines.
The wool felt hats are a fashion blogger favorite but I fell in love with one of the canvas and lace rain hats. It would be perfect to roll up in my bag.  At 530 Euros, it might have to be my one big splurge this summer. But than again, a really good hair day is priceless.

I think might have spotted a couple of men’s hats in
these photos. Would that be correct?

Hope your trip is going to plan, it seems to be.

What beautiful hats! I’m not a huge hat person because I don’t think I look really good in most hats. The exception is a good floppy, so if I were to find one that I loved, I’d say it’s worth the splurge! Thanks for sharing this lovely shop! xo
