First Look at Fall

Usually by this time in New York, i’m totally sick of my summer clothes and ready for fall.  Because the weather is so much less hot in Paris, I’m perfectly content with my current wardrobe.  Well, that was until I saw the new First Look at Fall feature in the June/July 2014 issue of Harpers’ Bazaar. It was the grey sweater and scarf ensemble (above) from Michael Kors that had me at hello.  The backdrop of the old TWA terminal at JFK International Airport also adds to the chicness.  I think I’ll take advantage of the summer sales that are starting to happen in Paris before I completely move onto fall though.

It is nice to see the interior of the TWA terminal at JFK. I haven’t seen it since my first flight to Europe in 1971.

Beautiful Terminal. Aero Saarinen at his best.

I remember flying out of that terminal years ago…a time when air travelers actually “dressed” for travel. It was such a great experience. And that building! Just the best best best.It was unforgettable. Nice to see images of it again.

I LOVE the sweater. Kudos to Kors on that one.

I need to show my mother this post (she is 85 now). She was a former TWA hostess in the late 40’s and early 50’s. She was not allowed to fly once she got married. My mother’s assignment was the New York to San Francisco flights and she met so many interesting people, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall. She loved them best as the “Connie” was rigged with a large banquet of food after the stars left Broadway shows on headed home toward California. Of course, jet engines were still a few years away and the length of the flights afforded my mother a couple nights in the destination city. It was an exciting time to be working with TWA. Then, the hostesses were treated like stars!

    Heather,

I can certainly see where that sweater got you at “hello”…took my breathe away! Beautiful styling!
