The Oscars are the last of the award shows which means that everyone can take off their Spanx and eat a cheeseburger now. The red carpet started off slow but built up steam when Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Watts, and Sienna Miller showed up. But it was Julianne Moore above in custom Chanel (Karl made it for her she said) who took home the Academy Award for best actress and maybe best dressed.

2-oscars-2015-habituallychic-lupita-calvin-klein

Lupita Nyong’o blew everyone away in this custom Calvin Klein gown made of 6,000 pearls and rightfully so.  She looked amazing.

3-oscars-2015-habituallychic-faith-hill-j-mendel

Faith Hill arrived early with her husband and performer Tim McGraw and also stunned in a pale J.Mendel gown.

4-oscars-2015-habituallychic-rene-russo

Pale was a popular choice and I loved this J. Mendel gown on Rene Russo.

5-oscars-2015-habituallychic-jenna-dewan-tatum

Jena Dewan Tatum was simply chic in Zuhair Murad.

6-oscars-2015-habituallychic-kerry-washington-miu-miu

Sometimes Prada and Miu Miu don’t work as well on the red carpet as they do on the runway but I loved Kerry Washington in this pale Miu Miu gown.

7-oscars-2015-habituallychic-jenniver-aniston-versace

I’m always team Aniston but this Versace gown was not my favorite on Jennifer Aniston. I say this with love but I’d like to see her work with a new stylist.

8-oscars-2015-habituallychic-zoe-saldana-versace

Zoe Saldana looks amazing after having twins in her Versace dress.

9-oscars-2015-habituallychic-oprah-vera-wang

Oprah was also another beauty in buff in this Vera Wang gown.

10-oscars-2015-habituallychic-jennifer-lopez-elie-saab

I always think Jennifer Lopez looks super humanly gorgeous and I do love this Elie Saab gown but I feel like we’ve seen her look similar many times before.  But I guess if it’s not broke, why fix it.  Some people commented that her usually perfect makeup was a little too pink though.

11-oscars-2015-habituallychic-gwyneth-paltrow-ralph-and-russo

Speaking of pink, Gwyneth Paltrow was channeling the pink Ralph Lauren gown she wore when she won her Oscar.  This pink dress if Ralph & Russo and I don’t think too many people on Twitter were fans of the shoulder detail.

12-oscars-2015-habituallychic-karolina-kurkova-marchesa

Model Karolina Kurkova was also pretty in pink Marchesa. I think the rain was the reason so many ladies has very sleek chignons or messy side parted hair which was a popular style of the night.

13-oscars-2015-habituallychic-marion-cotillard-dior

French actress Marion Cotillard’s Dior Haute Couture gown was very high fashion.  I’m a little on the fence about it but she did look beautiful.

14-oscars-2015-habituallychic-patricia-arquette-rosetta-getty

Best supporting actress winner for Boyhood, Patricia Arquette looked the best she’s looked all award season in a dress designed by her friend Rosetta Getty.

15-oscars-2015-habituallychic-meryl-streep-lanvin

I also thought Meryl Streep looked the best she’s looked in this Lanvin look due to the impeccable fit.

16-oscars-2015-habituallychic-sienna-miller-oscar-de-la-renta

Sienna Miller was the first actress to wear a gown by Oscar de la Renta designed by Peter Copping and looked amazing. I loved her pulled back hair with it too.

17-oscars-2015-habituallychic-margot-robbie-saint-laurent

I’m also on the fence about Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent and Van Cleef jewels.  It felt like the dress and necklace while lovely separately didn’t really go together.  Her new lob hairstyle also looked a little greasy.  Although, I will say she looked better on the telecast than the red carpet.

18-oscars-2015-habituallychic--cate-blanchett-margiela

Another very fashion forward Oscar presenter Cate Blanchett in Maison Margiela by John Galliano with a Tiffany & Co. necklace. It highlights the difference between what nominees and presenters might wear for the event.

19-oscars-2015-habituallychic-naomi-watts-armani

Naomi Watts just gets better and better and I love this Armani look on her. I also love following her stylist Jeanann Williams on Instagram to get the inside scoop on all her outfits.

20-oscars-2015-habituallychic-reese-witherspoon-tom-ford

I thought this Tom Ford gown was black and white but it posted that it’s really ice blue.  Whatever the color, I loved Reese Witherspoon’s entire look and want my hair to look like hers for my next night out.

21-oscars-2015-habituallychic-felicty-jones-alexander-mcqueen

The consensus of the night is that everyone loved the top of Felicity Jones’s dress but not the bottom. She’s so young and pretty that a sleeker skirt might have suited her better but she was still stunning.

22-oscars-2015-habituallychic-jessica-chastain-givenchy

Jessica Chastain was pretty but seemed to play it very safe in this Givenchy gown.

23-oscars-2015-habituallychic-ameroca-ferrera-jenny-packham

America Ferrera arrived early and I loved her Jenny Packham gown and overall look.

24-oscars-2015-habituallychic-emma-stone-elie-saab

Chartreuse is not an easy color to wear but Emma Stone pulled off this Elie Saab gown with aplomb.

25-oscars-2015-habituallychic-jennifer-hudson

I don’t know who Jennifer Hudson was wearing but she looked like perfection in this pale yellow gown.

27-oscars-2015-habituallychic-nicole-kidman-louis-vuitton

I’m definitely on the fence about Nicole Kidman’s lemon and red Louis Vuitton column gown.  The color combo worked perfectly for Reese Witherspoon years ago but I think this shade washes out poor Nicole.  Someone on twitter also pointed out that she looked just like Lindt bunny.

28-oscars-2015-habituallychic-dakota-johnson-saint-laurent

No, I haven’t seen 50 Shades of Grey and I don’t plan to either.  But I do have to say that Dakota Johnson did look great in her red Saint Laurent gown.  I LOVED the plaited silver strap although, I might have liked it even more with two straps. Some people thought the ponytail was too casual but I thought it kept her looking young and fresh.

29-oscars-2015-habituallychic-rosamund-pike-givenchy

I also really loved Rosemund Pike in this red Givenchy gown.  She really knows how to stand and pose on the red carpet and I her hair and makeup was perfect.

30-oscars-2015-habituallychic-lady-gaga-alaia

If Lady Gaga had just worn the Alaia dress without the gloves, she would have been a best dressed nominee.  The red gloves made her look like she was about to wash some dishes.  To quote Coco Chanel, “Once you’ve dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.”

What did you think of the ensembles and the show?  Who was your best dressed?
