While I loved seeing another peek at Jenna Lyons’ office at J.Crew and her chic new haircut on The Coveteur yesterday, it was her words of wisdom that really resonated.

“I think the best piece [of advice] I ever received is when someone pulled me aside one day and was like ‘stop worrying about what everyone else is doing, the people around you have nothing to do with you, just do your own thing and stop.’ Everyone has this tendency to mark themselves against other people and I think the world just does not work that way.”

It was something that was reiterated last night in yoga class.  The teacher reminded us that it’s ok to be inspired by our neighbor but not to compare ourselves with them. Everyone is on their own journey and comparison is the thief of joy.

I know I get caught up in this sometimes but so do blog readers. The things that I read online about myself and other people following their dreams is not just disheartening but also disturbing.

If you are jealous of something that someone else is doing, let it inspire you to follow your own dreams and desires today.
