Victoria Press Collection at Christie’s
Autumn is always an exciting time in the worlds of art and design. Yesterday, I stopped by Sotheby’s to view the The Collection of A. Alfred Taubman which will be at auction November 4th and 5th. Now I wish I had a trip planned to London to view the collection of late designer Victoria Press that will be up for auction at Christie’s on November 18th. Her home at 4 Cheyne Walk was built in 1717 and was once the home of author George Eliot. It’s now the home of Michael Bloomberg who purchased it after Victoria’s death. Some of the real estate photos are included in this post.
Victoria Press began her career in fashion and parlayed that experience into her interior design. Her approach she once said was to, “just shut up and stay put. If you learn to listen, the house will give you cues to what needs to be done.” While she was an avid collector, she was also always on the look out for a bargain. The stair runner was also made by piecing together many old inexpensive carpets, an idea I am saving for future use.
