How to Get the Style of Bunny Mellon

You have to bear with me because I’m still only a third of the way through Bunny Mellon: The Life of an American Style Legend book so she’s constantly on my mind lately. This along with the feature on her Antigua home purchased by Tory Burch that I posted yesterday has me thinking about her decorating style. There is a famous quote from her that says, “nothing should be noticed.” This is something I’ve heard from many elegant ladies. Everything should look effortless and you should never let on that anything took work. Her home decor vision was one that looked like things had been collected over time yet was also minimal. There are themes that always seem to inhabit each of her houses which includes painted furniture and floors, canopy beds, French provincial pieces, a few printed fabrics, topiaries, and lots of baskets. The priceless art was never treated as precious and everything was designed to be comfortable. In the book, it is said that Paul Mellon remained married to Bunny because she was the only one who could ever keep all their homes running so smoothly and impeccably decorated.

If you want to bring the Bunny Mellon style into your own home, these are a few perfect elements to get you started.
