Bon Weekend: 9 February 2019

I feel like the unexpected warm weather has helped me get my mojo back. I’ve been busier than usual and taking in everything New York has to offer that I’m sharing with you.

If you happen to go to the Ralph Lauren ladies mansion for the café this weekend, make sure you go upstairs to the fourth floor to check out their collaboration with Burleigh Pottery.

Downtown New York has many great restaurants but we don’t have as many uptown. That’s why I’m excited for Il Divo on Second Avenue. I haven’t been to eat yet but I walked by and was stopped in my tracks by the gallery wall dedicated to Rudolph Valentino. Right now, the restaurant is still waiting for their liquor license but they are open daily for lunch and lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays right now. The owners are the team behind Al Valentino in Milan.

The see and be seen restaurant L’Avenue from Paris has just opened an outpost in Saks Fifth Avenue in midtown. The Salon space designed by Philippe Starck is very brown but the Chalet downstairs looks like a cozy place to escape the cold weather this weekend.

Saks Fifth Avenue has also reopened their renovated ground floor with a new iridescent escalator designed by Rem Koolhaas that connects the first two floors. The ground floor now houses handbags and accessories while the beauty floor has been relegated to the basement. That means no more dodging perfume spritzers when you walk in the front door.

After Ralph Lauren on Thursday, my friend Louise Roe and I headed to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She only had time to see the Dutch Masterpieces exhibition but I stayed and toured Epic Abstraction. I’m not always a fan of contemporary art but I love modern art and especially the abstract expressionists. I love these types of paintings mixed with 18th-century antiques and other periods and styles. This exhibition includes works by Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Cy Twombly, and my favorite, Joan Mitchell. I also stopped by Lucio Fontana exhibition at the Met Breuer on Friday. It’s not as great Epic Abstraction but it’s still worth checking out.

On Thursday, I ended my day at the Frick Collection for an open house. Durning the evening, guests were allowed to visit the usually closed second floor and take photos. I usually sneak photos during my visits even though they aren’t allowed so it was fun to take photos legally. I was invited because I’m a member so you may want to sign up so you can attend the next open house. You can also see my entire tour on my Stories which have been saved to Highlights on Instagram.

I haven’t beeb yet but Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving just opened yesterday at the Brooklyn Museum. It seems similar to their previous exhibition on Georgia O’Keeffe that included clothing as well as paintings. It is “the largest U.S. exhibition in ten years devoted to the iconic painter and the first in the United States to display a collection of her clothing and other personal possessions, which were rediscovered and inventoried in 2004 after being locked away since Kahlo’s death, in 1954. They are displayed alongside important paintings, drawings, and photographs from the celebrated Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection of 20th Century Mexican Art, as well as related historical film and ephemera.”

I had a very busy day Thursday which also included stopping by KRB NYC to say hello to Frances Palmer and see her lovely pottery and beautiful photographs on display. The trunk show will continue through Saturday until 6:00pm.

My favorite French brand Sézane just launched a new collection on Wednesday and my order already arrived on Friday. Free two day DHL International shipping is amazing. My J.Crew orders in the US don’t even arrive that fast. The collection is full of pretty white eyelet pieces and new jewelry pieces. Get them before they’re gone.

You may remember that I traveled to Art Basel in Miami last December with La Prairie to learn more about their new Platinum Rare Cellular Life Lotion. The product has just become available and now you can also experience this rejuvenating and detoxifying treatment lotion you use before your serums. Their Cellular Eye Essence Platinum Rare from the same collection is my all time favorite eye cream too.

Bon week-end !

XOXO,

HC
