New Beauty Buys and Tries Spring 2019

As the weather and seasons change, it’s a good time to take stock of your beauty products and see if anything needs updating. I’ve just tried a few new products that I love and wanted to share my reviews in case you need a change too.

I have been trying the cult creams from Augustinus Bader and I adore them both. They were developed by Dr. Augustinus Bader who is a pioneer in the field of stem cell research and his creams were inspired by 30 years of research and innovation. They say you should use The Cream, which is lighter, during the day and The Rich Cream at night but I’ve been using The Rich Cream day and night. You could also use The Cream during the summer and The Rich Cream during the winter. The directions also say not to use a serum but I’ve been using them over serums too. It makes my skin feel plumper and much more hydrated. Victoria Beckham is a fan and I use anything she endorses.

I’ve resisted trying Drunk Elephant products because they look like something designed for babies and toddlers. But then I read about Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial and decided to give this one product a try. “Babyfacial™ is a pro-quality AHA/BHA ‘facial’ that resurfaces to reveal greater clarity, improved skin texture and tone and a more youthful radiance. Think of it as an extra nudge for stubborn, dull skin (in other words, it’ll knock your cells off).” I can honestly it’s the best new product I’ve ever tried. After I wash it off, my skin is baby soft. As soft as it is five days after a Clear + Brilliant laser treatment and it’s much cheaper. Buy this and you won’t be disappointed.

I didn’t even think about what might be in the cheap cotton pads I buy at the drugstore until I read a recent article. I then decided to try White Rabbit Premium Cotton Pads made from 100% organic cotton that is unbleached and untreated and grown free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. They are thinner than usual round cotton pads and don’t absorb as much product so more goes onto my skin.

I ran out of my Joanna Vargas Serum so I went back to using Chantecaille Bio Lifting Serum. It’s packed with potent antioxidants including White Tea and Ginseng in a formula that lifts, smooths and brightens for immediate and long-term hydration. I have definitely seen a difference in my skin and plan to keep using it going forward.

These Ubuna Serums just arrived so I haven’t had a chance to try them yet but I wanted to put them on your radar. Ubuna Beauty uses natural anti-body science from Japan in a series of four serums that target different issues. I’m excited to try them and will report back.

I always use sunscreen on my eyelids but it can run into your eyes if you sweat in hot weather. Now I am using Supergoop! Shimmershade Illuminating Cream Eyeshadow SPF 30 daily in the first light shade but it also comes in two other shades. I can’t believe no other company thought to create this product before.

Even with all the laser treatments I do every year, I still have problems with discoloration. I just started using La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion and White Caviar Crème Extraordinare that are supposed to inhibit melanin which is what causes dark spots. I am hoping they work and will report back on these too.

I already had an LED face mask but it was flat not molded to fit the shape of the face. I recently ordered the Dermashine Pro 7 LED Face Mask and love the better fit. If you’ve never tried LED light therapy, you are missing out. Each color treats a different skin condition to create more luminous skin. Red is great for blood circulation and can stimulate your cells to produce collagen. Collagen will aid in repairing damaged tissue to create a firm and smooth complexion. Blue calms sensitive skin and is often used to treat acne. Green improves pigmentation, anti-aging, reduces fine lines, and can help cure wounds. Yellow improves the exchange of oxygen to skin, promote lymphatic drainage, smoothes skin, and reduces redness. Purple which is the combination of red and blue light is relaxing, improves lymph metabolism, can reduce scarring. Light Blue is soothing, can help with allergies, enhances cell energy. The new White light accelerate active tissue metabolism, reduces fine lines and sagging skin. Use the mask with eye protection and listen to music or a podcast while it works its magic.

I was talking to my hair stylist about how to create more shine. He suggested trying Wella Reflections Luminous Smoothing Oil. It’s lightweight so it doesn’t weigh down my hair and leaves it bouncy. The true test is if it helps my hair during the extreme humidity of Charleston next week.

I’m still on the fence about Olaplex. I know some of you love it so I keep tying their different products. Olaplex No. 6 which is a leave in bond smoother was just recently released so I decided to try it. All their products seem to weigh down my hair and make it feel gunky including this one. I’m going to try to a few more times but maybe this line just isn’t for me.

There were a lot of pasty limbs on display during the warm weather in New York today. I have already started self tanning in preparation for Charleston and plan to bring this St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Bon Voyage Kit with me so I don’t have pale legs during the trip. I also love One Night Only Wash Off Face and Body Lotion if you need a quick tan but forgot to use self tanner the night before. It’s a life saver.

Bon week-end!

XOXO,
