Today marks the unofficial start of summer and chances are you are going away this long holiday weekend. I’m in the Hamptons and there are a lot of exciting new pop up shops opening this weekend. There are also fun events happening in New York for those of you visiting the city or when you return. It’s also a bank holiday weekend in the UK so I guess we can expect many fomo inducing Instagram posts from our friends across the pond as well. I hope you have a wonderful weekend where ever it takes you.

Photo of Goop Sag Harbor by me.

I was excited to learn the Goop has returned for a second summer at 4 Bay Street in Sag Harbor. I stopped by today and promptly bought a pair of espadrilles before they sold out. The store is filled with many of the wellness products and chic clothing and accessories you can find on the Goop website but it’s lovely to get to check them out in real life. I can’t find out how long they will be open but I assume it should be until September.

Photo of The White Company in Southampton by me.

The White Company is also popping up in Southampton at 52 Jobs Lane for the summer. The store wasn’t open yet when I was in town Thursday but I’m sure it’s filled with their signature white linens, clothing, candles, and hostess gifts. (Please excuse the mess in front of their store. The utility company had all spring to get their work done and instead decided to rip up the street right before Memorial Day weekend.)

Ulla Johnson designs the most perfect summer dresses and now you can pick up something for your Hamptons weekend at her new pop up shop in Amagansett at 4 Amagansett Square. If you can’t make it to the store, you can find many of her fashions on sale here and here.

If you happening to visiting New York over the holiday weekend, considering heading downtown to Cuyana. You can get a pair of sandals custom made while Amanu is on site for a Cuyana + Amanu collaboration until June 16, 2019.

I know a few people who are visiting Charleston this holiday weekend and I hope they stop by Amanda Lindroth‘s new store at 455 1/2 King Street. The store was sadly not open yet when I visited the Holy City in April so I look forward to checking it out on my next trip.

When I was visiting the Albertine bookstore a week ago, I found a pamphlet for Films on the Green, free French films in New York and New Jersey parks from May to September 2019. I’ve watched and own many obscure French films but I’m not familiar with most of the films on the schedule.

Booksmart which marks the directorial debut of actress Olivia Wilde is the buzziest film of the summer. It follows “academic overachievers Amy and Molly thought keeping their noses to the grindstone gave them a leg up on their high school peers. But on the eve of graduation, the best friends suddenly realize that they may have missed out on the special moments of their teenage years. Determined to make up for lost time, the girls decide to cram four years of not-to-be missed fun into one night — a chaotic adventure that no amount of book smarts could prepare them for.” I really wish I could watch it on Netflix or on Demand because I don’t want to be the oldest person in the theatre but I have a feeling I wouldn’t be the only non-teen in attendance.

I finished Sally Rooney’s first book Conversations with Friends last week and absolutely loved it. I actually started to reread it because I didn’t want it to end. So of course, I also immediately ordered her second book, Normal People, before I left for the Hamptons. I started reading it on the Jitney and finished it today. I enjoyed the first half of the book but it seemed to fall apart in the second half. It follows many of the same themes of her first book so I will be interested to see what she comes up with for a third book. I’m still glad I read it though because I do appreciate her writing.

The espadrilles I bought today at Goop are not available anywhere online so I’m really glad I decided to get them. When I was looking online, I came across this chic pair of flats with ankle ties on sale on Goop. Since it said there were only two pairs left, I bought them too. Of course, they will be perfect with longer skirts and dresses but they be even better with jeans and a blouse and black blazer. I can’t wait to wear them.

I hope you take some time this weekend to remember why we observe Memorial Day and thank any service men and women you might see.

Bon week-end!

XOXO,

HC
