Happy Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend! I know a lot of people will be leaving the city this weekend but there are a lot of things happening for those who have decided to stay or those who will be visiting.

I’m not really that into orchids but Jeff Leatham, famed artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris and floral designer to the stars, energizes the 18th annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. The exhibition which opens on Saturday, February 15th will showcase “Leatham’s bold and colorful vision through captivating installations and designs, transforming each gallery of the exhibition in the historic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory into a different color experience and visual effect, like the turn of a kaleidoscope.”

I haven’t seen Ballerina: Fashion’s Modern Muse at the Museum at FIT yet but I’ve seen many photos on Instagram and it looks beautiful. The exhibition highlights the profound and enduring influences of classical ballet and ballerinas on modern high fashion.

You might not know Dorthea Lange’s name but chances are you have seen her iconic photos. Dorothea Lange: Words and Pictures at the Museum of Modern Art is the first major exhibition of Lange’s work in 50 years and brings iconic works from the collection together with less seen photographs.

Belle de Jour is a strange but iconic film due to Catherine Denueve’s beauty, her wardrobe by Yves Saint Laurent and shoes from Roger Vivier. I love the views of Paris in 1967 with its chic cars and elegant Bourgeois interiors. If you want to see Luis Buñuel’s masterpiece, the film is playing at 11:00am from February 15-17, 2020 at the IFC Center in the West Village.

There was a documentary of Bill Cunningham that came out in 2010 but The Times of Bill Cunningham is told in his own words from a recently unearthed six-hour 1994 interview. The iconic street photographer and fashion historian chronicles his life from moonlighting as a milliner in France during the Korean War to his unique relationship with First Lady Jackie Kennedy and his four decades at The New York Times. Sarah Jessica Parker narrates the film which also features incredible photographs chosen from over three million previously unpublicized images and documents from Bill’s archives.

The French film Portrait of a Woman on Fire is also getting a lot of buzz due to its beautiful cinematography. On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter, Marianne, is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young woman who has just left the convent. Héloïse is a reluctant bride to be and Marianne must paint her without her knowing. She observes her by day, to paint her secretly but they eventually grow close.

I stopped watched Outlander during season three but if you’re still into the fantasy romance series, Starz has released episode one of season five a few days early. I might start watching again as they navigate life in North Carolina. You can watch the first three seasons on Netflix and seasons four and five on Amazon if you don’t have Starz cable channel.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is an American teen romance that came out in 2018 on Netflix and became popular with people of all ages. Unfortunately, the sequel To All the Boys P.S. I Still Love You that was just released does not have the same magic. I thought it was pretty boring and flat but check it out for yourself this weekend if you are looking for something new to watch.

I went to dinner at The Orchard Townhouse with my friend Chris Kann on Thursday night. The Chelsea restaurant from the team behind The Fat Radish has quickly become his favorite local restaurant if you’re looking for a new spot downtown. I had fish but the Chicken Milanese is one of their specialties.

We’ve had a very mild winter so far in New York which I have a feeling that means that it’s going to get hot very early in the spring. To prepare, I’ve been buying every dress I see that looks like my style. The latest edition was this Tuckernuck Catherine Dress in denim and another one in green and white stripes. The fit is perfect and I love band collars because my hair lays flat and doesn’t get caught like it does in a collared shirtdress. It does run very long which will be good for you taller ladies but the rest of us will have to make a trip to the tailor. It’s worth it though for a perfect dress. It also comes in black silk and navy poplin. I may have to buy those next. Hot tip, if you leave your purchase in your cart without checking out right away, they will send you a pop up offer of 10% off.

I currently use Benefit High Beam Liquid Highlighter but I swear it breaks me out in the places I use it. I just came across Chanel Le Blanc Rosy Light Drops which is sheer liquid highlighter with a subtle rosy tint that gives skin a pearlescent glow and will be ordering it today.

I haven’t gone on a warm weather trip yet this winter so my legs are incredibly pale. I love St. Tropez Self Tan Express Advanced Bronzing Mousse to give me a nice tan color when wearing dresses but I’m intrigued by the sound of ThisWorks Perfect Legs Skin Miracle. It’s a “powerful, tinted serum full of vitamins to help enhance and repair skin.” Who couldn’t use that during the cold and drying winter months.

Bon week-end!

XOXO,

HC
