Bon Weekend: 19 June 2020

I apologize for the radio silence this week. I started a few interior design posts but just couldn’t get them together. It’s still so hard to find inspiration in quarantine but I’m hoping that a change of scenery next week will help get me back on track.

I was lucky enough to receive one of the Lewis Miller Design x LSD Flower Flash City Boxes from Moda Operandi recently which you can see in the top photo. The next box that arrives from June 30 to July 3 is the Country Wildflower Box that Frances Palmer styled in her own vases above. The Beach Bloom Box will arrive July 7-10 and would make a great follow up hostess gift for July 4th holiday weekend.

The second season of The Politician is available to binge on Netflix today. It’s not my favorite show but I do enjoy the costumes and settings. It’s worth watching to see everything Gwyneth Paltrow wears as Georgina Hobart. This season also includes Judith Light and Bette Midler which is fun for a show that centers around younger characters.

I absolutely loved the first season of the British thriller Marcella starring Anna Friel on Netflix. Season two was much too creepy for me which is why I was excited for season three that debuted last weekend. It turned out to be a complete departure from the other two seasons and was actually quite boring. The storyline felt suspiciously similar to the British spy series Hunted starring Melissa George too. I’ve felt disappointed by a lot of shows this summer. I didn’t even bother finishing Killing Eve and Run was the worst show I’ve ever watched in my life. Perhaps it’s a good time to start reading outside and give up on tv for the rest of the summer.

A movie that I watched on demand and highly recommend is High Note. It stars Dakota Johnson as the personal assistant to a famous singer played by Tracee Ellis Ross, daughter of Diana Ross. It was a charming and delightful look at the music industry in Los Angeles with beautiful fashions and cool locations.

I’m still enjoying Andre Leon Talley’s book The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir and in it he mentions Alicia Drake’s book The Beautiful Fall: Fashion, Genius, and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris. I haven’t read it since it was released in 2007 so I am going to go back and read it since it goes into more detail about the rivalry between Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent that Andre talks about in his book.

As we officially enter summer this weekend, that means humidity will return with a vengeance. I kept seeing everyone posting about the brand Briogeo recently and decided to try their Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Cream. I’ve used it a few times this week and I can say that it definitely lives up to all the hype. It makes my hair feel a little dry but honestly keeps frizz at bay so I’ll probably only use it when humidity levels rise. There is a whole line of Briogeo Anti Frizz products and you could try the Farewell Frizz Control + Repair Hair Travel Kit before committing to full sized products. I also heard great things about the Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask which I look forward to trying next.

One reason I don’t use my LED light mask enough is because I have to cover my eyes. That means no phone, computer, or television for 20 minutes. I always think I will use it while listening to podcasts but rarely do which is why I just bought this new DMH Aesthetics LED Light Shield Mask from Poosh. The new design means it can be used while you work, watch, or scroll. Mine just arrived today and I can’t wait to use it tonight after I do my evening skincare routine.

I’m going away next week, more at the end of this post, and I just dropped off five dresses at my tailor for hemming. I also ordered this Blue Striped Dress with green rickrack trim but I don’t know if it will arrive before I leave which is a shame because it would be perfect for my trip. I will be taking my blue and white half placket dress that I just noticed is on sale for $159 as is the white version.

I need to be cut off from ordering any more dresses from H&M but they have so many cute styles at great prices that I can’t help myself. The delivery is slow due to the pandemic which is my only complaint. I bought this Cotton Floral Dress and a bunch that are already sold out unfortunately. I also ordered this Short Striped Dress that I might wear as a nightgown instead of a dress.

I have multiple pairs of Castañer espadrilles but they can be pricey for a summer shoe that usually only lasts a season or two. These new D’Orsay Espadrilles from Everlane and a great style and a lower price. Just not sure why they didn’t include black cotton ties on the black pair but you can buy black cotton tape online to replace the ivory.

I am very excited to be heading to Sag Harbor for a much needed trip out east next week. I can’t wait for a change of scenery and to see all my friends again. A lot of people I know have already started traveling and taking flights again. I’ve been asking each one how they felt about flying so I will put together a post on how to travel safely this summer soon. I cannot wait to get out of here and have new things to post on Instagram where you can follow my trip in real time.

Bon weekend!

XOXO,
