Bon Weekend: 20 November 2020

The time before Thanksgiving is usually full of meal prep and excitement but this year is obviously feeling much different. I’ve put together some new shows and openings to keep your mind off the news.

I couldn’t finish season three of The Crown because I thought Olivia Coleman was overdoing it as the Queen but I very much enjoyed season four which debuted last Friday. I binged it while I was on my third round of Prolon to keep my mind off my hunger. This season introduces Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher storylines that many people might remember. It’s worth watching for the 80’s fashions and Emma Corrin is the best Princess Diana we’ve ever seen on film.

Riviera is back for season three but it’s only available on tv if you have Sundance Now or you can watch it on Amazon Prime. They’re only releasing one episode every Thursday which is the stupidest thing to do to people who are trying to social distance or stay at home. The main reason to watch Riviera is for the locations and clothing especially when we can’t travel right now.

I also watched Dash & Lily when I was doing Prolon. I thought it was going to be a movie but it turned out to be a charming series that follows “a whirlwind Christmas romance as it builds as cynical Dash and optimistic Lily trade dares, dreams and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations around New York City.” It was fun to watch them start at The Strand and run around to iconic locations around the city including my favorite place, Monkey Bar. Austin Abrams is definitely one to watch.

Dolly Parton is the only one who’s going to save us this year and her new Netflix musical, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, will debut on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Dolly plays an “angel sent to help a rich Scrooge (Christine Baranski) learn some generosity and love at Christmastime.”

I did speak to a doctor who said it was safe to visit a museum since everyone is wearing a mask so I need to schedule a timed ticket to The Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the new fashion exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration. “The Costume Institute’s 2020 exhibition traces a century and a half of fashion—from 1870 to the present—along a disruptive timeline, on the occasion of The Met’s 150th anniversary.”

We can’t travel to Paris now but we can pretend we have at the newly opened outpost of Angelina in Midtown New York. I hope they offer their legendary hot chocolate to go.

Those of you in Los Angeles will want to check out the Dr. Barbara Sturm Boutique and Spa that just opened. I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my skin since I started using Dr. Barbara Strum products and I look forward to checking out her New York spa when it reopens.

Barack Obama’s new book A Promised Land sold nearly 890,000 copies in the US and Canada in its first 24 hours, putting it on track to become the bestselling presidential memoir in modern history. It would make a great early gift or a book to read during your smaller Thanksgiving holiday at home.

I’ve talked about the Prolon Fast Mimicking Diet before and just finished my third fast. They suggest when you first do it that you should do it once a month for three consecutive months. I lost 7 pounds the first time and kept it off. I also saw a huge improvement in inflammation and it helped me cut out sugar and dairy for six weeks. I got the flu shot right after my second fast and it negated all the benefits and gave me terrible side effects but luckily the third fast has me feeling better again. It’s a great way to reset your diet after the holidays and you can save $50 off Prolon and receive 30 Free Fast Bars and Free Shipping with the code BFCM50.
