I always pass by this townhouse at 46 East 73rd Street on my walk to Madison Avenue and Central Park. I’ve long admired the glossy black door and topiaries so when the holiday decorations from 2019 stayed up for all of last year, I decided to investigated who owned it. Turns out that it’s Gayfryd Steinberg and it’s for sale via her sister in law at Sotheby’s Realty for $14,750,000. Mark Hampton decorated her palatial apartment at 740 Park Avenue but no word on who did the very tasteful interiors of the townhouse. I can’t find anything out other than what’s in the listing but it appears to be in turnkey condition which makes the price seem like a bargain. If you buy it, I would negotiate the custom beds and draperies into the sale. They are my favorite part other than the mangle for ironing linens. You should ask to keep that too.
