More Chic Stripes
by habituallychic
06 . 30 . 11As much as I love them, I don’t think I have the patience, energy or budget to have stripes painted in my new apartment. But I was thinking that maybe I could handle them in the bathroom. Black and white seems to be a popular choice as seen by Stephen Shubel, above who used them twice. I love the yellow although that color won’t work in my space, the teal blue shade could be a contender. I definitely see some paint samples in my future.

Beautiful! I am painting taupe stripes in my bedroom.
Such inspiration here.

I am loving the look of stripes more and more. For some reason the black and white going horizontally bothers me though. I still love the yellow and whites.

I love the coastal bathroom with the yellow stripes!
I had vertical periwinkle blue and white stripes (about 12 inches wide) in my bedroom growing up and I loooved them. I have pale pink and white stripes in my apartment now.
They are so fresh and timeless!!
Heather,
The pink striped bathroom is featured in the Domino Book of Decorating. The caption reads “Bathroom of Krista Ewart, interior decorator.”
I enjoy your posting; keep it up!

I really love the look of the stripes — it adds so much dimension to the room. But it must take forever to paint!
i only like the joe nye, and i love that. the rest would be too much for me to live with.
Let me know if you need a Ralph Lauren paint deck 😉
I adore stripes. But if you feel contrasting geometry might be too much, consider tone-on-tone.
Completely in love with most all of these… especially the ones that have faux tented ceilings… there’s something so regal and Napoleonic about that look, like Empress Josephine’s room at Malmaison
I dream of doing that to my powder room (when I get one).
To tell you the truth some of these stripes, especially the black and white ones, make me dizzy! They are gorgeous to look at in a magazine but every day?
Good Luck with your move, very exciting. I’d literally give my pinkie for a little place in NY. Feelin the stripes!
Love the horizontal stripes and how they go all the way from the wall to the ceiling in the first room. Great blog!

I agree with The Devoted Classicist and would decide on a color and then do tone on tone… The stripes will please you but it may be less jarring for a studio…
But on the other hand… Paint is not permanent. You can always cover it with a fresh coat!
i think each and every example you have posted are great.
if i have to lose my broadly striped floor in my new showroom…
i am going to do the bathroom like the 1st image.
thanks for you great design eye!
Wow, I’ve never seen so many candy-striped bathrooms – I love it!
I like stripes, but i see myself getting tired of them very quickly! It may be to much of a good thing. Maybe stripes below molding and a solid color above.
I love black and white stripes! In fact I just bought an apron with thick black and white stripes!!!
🙂

Oh those black and white stripes in the bathroom looks so gorgeous, and they give the illusion of extra height. love it ♥
I think it’s very chic but I think too much for me even in a bathroom 🙁 Good luck with the new apartment. Nicolex
Stripes always make a room look great and can definite;y bring focus to (usually) boring plain walls.
