Perfectly Imperfect Parisian Apartment
by habituallychic
01 . 03 . 11As we move into the new year, many of us will be working on organizing our lives and our homes. I know this because I spent most of Sunday cleaning out my closet and organizing my files. Why does the interior design industry have to use so much paper?! While I want everything to be neat and orderly, I realize that there is often beauty in that which is imperfect. There is something about this Paris apartment that is slightly off but looks so perfect to me. It also clearly illustrates the difference between American and French decorating styles. The French don’t seem to sweat the small stuff and I will try to remember this in 2011.

Aside from the washing machine in that kitchen I think everything looks perfect. (I know it’s a european thing but I don’t care for it.)
I completely sympathize with you about all the paper! Sometimes I feel like I might never get it all organized!

It is stunning! I am headed (back) to Paris in 2011…would love to rent a little apartment like this. It just feels so fresh and light. Perfection.
beautiful! I love the black and white look which I think works well with the classic feminine decor touches. thanks for sharing and love your blog!

Many items shown in this editorial aren’t really my cup of tea, but they do seem to synchronize harmoniously in this lovely apartment or maybe because it’s in France 🙂

This apartment has such good bones that it hardly needs much to make it beautiful. It seems so uncluttered. Oh those parquet floors!
Your not alone. I spent the whole morning throwing away 3 large trash bags full of work papers, magazines and old bills.
I’m an American living in Paris and you are absolutely correct: in terms of home decor, the French don’t sweat the small stuff. Sometimes I am amazed at the general wonkiness of French homes — even those featured in decor magazines. Symmetry is often forgotten; clocks and photographs are hung off center, the dishwasher is always askew, lamp cords and wires are clearly visible. It can drive me crazy, but it can also be refreshing, especially when contrasted with American decor, which is sometimes so *perfect* that is becomes boring.
Anyway, loved your post; love your blog!
I love the slipcovers on the rattan chairs! Simply chicy!
