September
by habituallychic
09 . 01 . 10The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

Heather,
I love this poem and the beautiful photograph. It reminds me of You’ve Got Mail, one of my favorite “feel good” movies. Thanks for sharing this.

Really kicks off the Fall season. I awoke early this a.m. to thunder and a light rain. Perfect for the ushering in of fantastical Fall weather!

Really, really can’t believe it’s here. Ready for fall weather.
Lovely! John Updike is a favorite of mine. He came to Nashville several years ago and the public library put on a marionette show based on his child’s poem about the seasons. My son got his “autograph” after the performance and he was so kind and dear to my budding reader. I was so sad to hear of his recent death. He will be missed in the literary community and beyond.
Pretty poem!
Have a wonderful September. x
Heather–love this photo and the wonderful poem. Fall is my favorite season, can’t wait for colorful walks in Central Park!
The perfect way to kick off the month! I had so much fun dining/shopping with you yesterday. I am forever a JG Melon girl : )
