Bottega and Bergdorfs

When I die, I want to be buried in Bergdorf’s. I don’t think the museums give me as much pleasure as this store. Even if I can’t afford anything, I just like to go and look and be inspired. If you need to be inspired, then I recommend checking out the new Bottega Veneta home collection on display. It’s chic with a capital C. I wouldn’t decorate an entire room in the line but it would be great mixed as they did here with the French looking sofa and chairs and maybe some colorful abstract art. It’s too bad I don’t have a client who can afford anything. Picking out fabulous things for them is almost as much fun as buying things for myself. Actually, it might be better since I don’t have to open the credit card bill later. Happy Shopping!

My first visit to Bergdorf’s and I thought I had died and gone to heaven – nothing has changed all these years later. Every time I visit I feel exactly the same, xv.
The leather used in those designs are amazing. Bit like the bags really!!
I love the console and the desk. So sleek and well proportioned. And I do love the pieces that they have styled together. Those folks at Bergdorf do know a thing or two about style….

I also love going into stores I can’t afford just for the heavenly, dreamy inspiration feeling. My husband calls this “aimless shopping” and hates coming along…but it always pays off in the end because when it comes time to buy any type of present, I always know exactly what to get, where I saw it and how much it will cost!
It’s probably the same thing with being a decorator…you always know where that special piece you need to complete the room can be found!
I am a huge fan of Bergdorf as well. Both womenswear and menswear store are amazing, so classically luxurious and full of new stuff at the same time… Too bad it is soooo expensive… Aren’t there huge discounts with the crisis?
Do you think that is possible to be buried somewhere wonderful like Bergdorf’s? I know I am supposed to be looking at the room settings, but I can’t help thinking

That Orrery Planetarium in the last picture is amazing!
I am compelled to lick my screen because it is BEAUTIFUL! On my 23rd birthday all I wanted to do was to have my birthday lunch at BG and I swear I died a little when I walked in.
I see so many design influences in Bottega Veneta’s work…many of the mid-century masters with some great 18th c. thrown in. Wouldn’t it be a little cheaper (more time consuming) just to buy the originals?

Vicki – I know how you feel! I always joke that Holly had Tiffany’s and I have Bergdorf’s!
Kellie – they took the designs from the bags including the woven leather for the furniture. Everything is even more amazing in person!
Covetable – The styling is the best part! Did you notice the bag just casually sitting on the chair! The whole thing is perfecton!
Sophie – My favorites are 7, 5 and 2 for the shoes!
Christina – I always think it helps to shop the more expensive stores because then you can spot the lesser priced “knock-offs” which could even be at stores at J. Crew. I also have to shop the antiques stores for clients even though I can’t afford anything but at least someone else can!
Hansaxel – The big sale will be coming up at the beginning of June but don’t tell anyone 😉

Niki – Hahaha! A birthday lunch at Bergdorf’s sounds like a great present! I always think the store harkens back to when shopping was glamorous unlike today when people go out in sweatpants!
Mary – The antique chairs aren’t part of the collection. All the Bottega pieces are made from the saem leather as the handbags so you wouldn’t be able to find the exact same thing in a vintage piece.

The pictures of Bergdorf’s are wonderful. I haven’t been in years but remember how beautiful the store is, and that wonderful location adjacent to the park. For those of us not in New York, this is like a mini vacation. Thanks so much for your thoughtful posts. Thierry in Toronto

Do you know what this beautiful space reminds me of? A Will & Grace episode, for anyone who’ve seen it, it’s the one where Will’s boss, a Texas tycoon hired Grace (Grace Adler Designs) to decorate his apartment in the City. Her design was an over-the-top disaster. This serene Bottega apartment would have made Will very happy!
Love, love, love that little cabinet with all the books on. It makes me want to rearrange my books and get them looking all lovely…rather than the unsightly heap they are currently in!

i like the french sofa and of course the styling of the vignettes, but the timing seems a bit off for the luggage inspired pieces- haven’t both pottery barn and restoration hardware been doing similar of late? or did bottega do it first, and they knocked it off? that would make more sense…
