Support Small Business Saturday
by habituallychic
11 . 24 . 11Try not to shop till you drop on Black Friday and please save some stamina to support Small Business Saturday on November 26th. I am very lucky to live in New York where shopping is almost an Olympic event but it’s the small businesses and unique little stores that make it special. Bleecker Street used to be one of my favorite places to shop when it was full of quaint antique stores and Biography Book Store. They’ve since been replaced by well known retailers and it’s just not the same. That’s why I will definitely be supporting Small Business Saturday myself. Lexington Avenue near where I live has also seen many stores close so it’s the first place I will be shopping.
I will begin at Bunny William’s lovely shop Treillage where I’ll look for presents for friends and family and maybe a little something for myself.
I might also pick up some ornaments to decorate the full size tree I am getting this year.
Next door to Treillage is Lexington Gardens, another store filled with decorations and as the name suggests, flowers and garden accoutrements.
I love this painted backdrop in their window.
Since I’m working on my own book, I have to support small bookstores like Archivia. I love perusing their front table full of all the newest releases.
William Wayne farther down on Lexington Avenue can be a bit expensive but they always have great hostess gift ideas.
They also have a wide array of blue and white porcelain.
After all that shopping, I will definitely need a pick me up. I’m not sure if Laduree is considered a small business since they are big in Paris but they only have one store in New York. I have also seen the owners helping out behind the counter so I am including them. When I need a gift for a person who has everything, I always pick up a box of macarons. And a few for myself of course. They are the perfect present.
Happy Holidays and Happy Small Business Shopping!

Thank-you so much! There is that something about mass production that is kinda, “ugh” at times. Not that I don’t love a good sale at target. I adore those Faberge egg ornaments!
I enjoyed the tour of small NY shops… here in our little garden (Savannah, GA) we have many small unique business which we all support to keep what makes our city beautiful.
I LOVE Lexington Gardens!!!! We were in NYC for July 4th and walked by there and went in and I got so much fun cute stuff. I got a lot of X-Mas gifts then as well as stuff for the house. It is the greatest shop and the people that worked there were so friendly and helpful. So fun to see you have them spotlighted!!!! As a small business owner myself I appreciate your blog promoting supporting small business Saturday. Thanks!!
Hi Heather, thank you so much for supporting small business—we definitely need all of the reminders that we can get. I am drooling over Lexington Gardens-what a fairly land. Have a great Thanksgiving. Mary
I will be trimming the tree on friday in our Interieurs showroom and exceptionally open on saturday for the American express support-small business-saturday. mood will be set, gifts ready to be wrapped, music playing, candles burning…. perhaps, you will be heading to 58th Street….

Aside from some excellent national brands right in my neighborhood (like Anthropologie); there are so many unique boutiques. Please visit and make a special purchase for a loved one (or yourself)
Heather, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Thank you for a glimpse in to the windows of these treasured stores on Lexington Avenue. It’s these beautiful windows that inspire us throughout the year and the merchants that deliver a sense of awe that can’t be found in the big box stores. Thank you for reminding us to support their talents and have their merchandise wrapped to give to our favorites!
Heather, thank you for today’s posting. I know from personal experience how hard a small business owner has to work to make the experience special. Great choices– I love all of those shops–I would also add Il Papiro to that list. I truly admire the thought, care and consideration that each of these owners puts into their shops. Long may they reign!
=O Wow, those pictures are so beautiful!
I agree you, the smallest stores are usually the ones with the biggest charm…! =)
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving! Have a nice holiday!
Wonderful winter wonderland, cant wait for christmas its such a wonderful time of year. I remember creaping down the stairs hoping to see santa in the hallway.
If you really want to help small business to compete with big corporations they must teach small business, how to build up their business credit profiles. This is the KEY to helping any business getting funded. Here.
I hope this support of small business’s takes off. As a small biz owner myself I appreciate it, but most important it’s crucial to our economic recovery.
Anyway, always love your nyc posts. Was just in your neck of the woods it appears. Stopped into a few of your picks – all just glorious.
Happy Holidays to you!
